Besides the constant chewing, not one of my dogs has had a firm stool since their first meal with the new formula. One of my dogs is prone to anal glad issues, and so it is critical that she have a firm stool.
Well, under duress I tried it and my dogs did not eat for 3 days. I decided to try the Newman's organic and after about 4 weeks their coat looks so much better and the licking has really decreased. I really cannot say enough about this food; it has made my dogs more balanced mentally and physically. I have relied on Canidae for my 4 dogs for over 3 years now.
If you have cats we have switched ours to the Felidae and can also highly recommend it. I have an otherwise healthy and active 1 year old Rottweiler. When I went to purchase more food and saw that the 40lb bag was discontinued I went looking for a reason why and to make sure there weren't any other issues. Right on their website it mentioned the formula change, bag change, and the proper way to transition your dog from the old to the new food to avoid digestive issues. He's getting a bit grey, but is as bouncy as he ever was 10 years ago. I switched my mini-Schnauzers over to Newman's Own Organics a month ago when they came off of their puppy chow. Please do a search on Google/Consumer Affairs before you buy. I will not be giving my dog this brand anymore.
This convinced me it was not just "something she picked up," but the dog food itself. Now I have learned there is actually a CLASS ACTION SUIT against this dog food maker for the exact problem I described- in some cases people's dogs even died.
I am sold on Canidae. The dogs love this food more than the Solid Gold, but I believe that they are both fine foods. I like that this is a reasonably priced organic dog food that is readily available. I switched to this when the brand I had been feeding my dogs for years began to upset the tummy of my senior. My dogs will not touch the harmony farms, yet love this dog food. Both my dogs love it.
I have given my dogs every expensive dog food there is, Orijen, Blu, Merrick...you name it, and even though they were good this one is the best. No upset tummies during the switch to this dog food either. Since purchasing my latest bag about three weeks ago she has been throwing up, having frequent burping which smells of vomit, having horribly smelly flatulence, and I had to clean my carpet from a poop accident two days ago. I sent an e-mail telling them that I would rather pay more for something than have it down-sized.
My cocker puppy threw up castor and Poullex and Natural balance and had loose motions. So I tried this and he did great! And, best of all, no more itching or hot spots. Vet believes that she was allergic to corn products in Iams; a common allergy for dogs.
