Training Tips For The Bulldog Puppy

By Cheryl Pierce

Bulldogs look tough and intimidating but they become adorable when trained correctly. However, it takes a lot of perseverance and some tedious work. A bulldog can be the best pet-friend you are looking for with qualities such as: trustworthy, faithful, respectful and intelligent. With this, they also have some negative attributes. Bulldogs tend to be stubborn and disobedient, and yet training makes them one of the most- sought after companions at home. Let me share with you some important point when training a bulldog puppy.

Bulldog owners share the same sentiment. Bulldog puppies are mostly high spirited and active. Because of this, they tend to jump and paw you, of course with some effects that may hurt you. Bulldogs need to know their limits. They need to learn to stop and know that you are not pleased at all! Most of the time, when you shout and call their attention, Bulldogs do not stop because they cannot sense the difference between petting and shouting. What you should do as the bulldog owner and friend, is to face the opposite way whenever there is jumping and pawing. Cross your arms and do not face them nor look at them in the eye. This would let him stop. Of course, when your bulldog stops, that's the best time to encourage and pet him. Do the same process all over again when your bully jumps. In the long- run, you will have a more disciplined and well- trained bully.

It's much easier to teach your bulldog puppy when you spend a lot of time with them. They love to curl, cuddle and stay close to you....after awhile they'll become your shadow!

Another characteristic of the bulldog is their intelligence. This, at times, becomes a disadvantage since they become a bit hard- headed. When you give some commands and all you get is a "look", that means, he is still trying to weigh whether to act on the command or not. For others, it may seem stupid but then, the brain is still trying to figure it out. This is a fact of bulldogs that every bulldog owner should know.

An undeniable bully trait is their hard-headedness. Be consistent with your training sessions. Never tire unless your pup learns to follow your instructions. Do not let your pup get tired though, but continue to push towards your goal of teaching the right way. Time- frame may vary. You can start with five minutes, and then progress it a little longer. Eye contact is important. This means that you have your pup's attention. If your bully refuses to look at you, you need to stop and resume a little later.

Take time and cuddle your bulldog. Bonding moments strengthen your relationship. Once you have a strong relationship, you will have the best friend that will never leave you when the going gets tough. A well- trained dog is respectful until the end.
