Before You Go And Buy Exotic Shorthair Kittens

By Ann Stevens

Quite a few people on the planet have taken to bringing in a pet, either a dog or cat into their lives. And many of these people say this is fulfilling and you may have taken to following their advice in getting one too. You may have put into your mind about getting one of several exotic shorthair kittens that you have seen in the market and are keen on taking care of it. Before you make the plunge, do read on to know more about it.

The exotic shorthair is just a fancy name for the shorthaired Persian and only has around a history spanning 50 years. In every respect this breed is a Persian except that it has short fur coat. In this respect the cat is also considered as a non shedding breed and is quite easy to groom.

Even though the fur is not prone to tangling or matting, it is still necessary to give it a once a week brushing. Do this so as to prevent the incidence of your cat getting hairballs in the throat and also to maintain the overall beauty and appearance of the coat. This weekly brushing practice will also strengthen the bond between you and your pet feline.

The temperament of the shorthair is very much like the regular Persian and it is very friendly. It will tend to gravitate to people and is very warm and welcoming with its master all the time, always looking for an inviting lap for it to lay on. It is also very easy to please this cat as it can be quite happy with a paper ball or even just a piece of string to play with.

Due to precautions taken by early breeders of this cat, it is not prone to any genetic abnormalities or diseases. However it will develop some tear duct complications as well as some sinuses when it gets on in age.

The lifespan of this cat can reach 8 to 15 years depending on how good and well it is maintained and taken cared of. It is a medium sized cat but can look much bigger than it actually is due to its puffy coat. In adulthood it can reach a range of 7 to 12 pounds for both males and females.

This cat also does not figure well in any scrap or a fight with any other animal. Thus it must always be kept inside at all times for its own safety. The loving nature of this cat when it comes to humans makes it an easy target for cat thieves or for anyone that wants an expensive cat for free. Always treat it as an indoor cat at all times.

This article has shown some important points to consider before making a commitment to getting this particular breed. There are of course other factors that you should research on also to help you make a solid decision. Remember that it takes a lot of responsibility in becoming a pet owner, whether for a cat, a dog or otherwise.
