What Is A Board And Train CT Program And Could It Transform Your Pet

By David Olson

Some dogs just naturally have good manners and others take to obedience training like they were born for it. Then there are the pets who resist all efforts to teach them how to behave indoors and on a leash. If you are at your wit's end, and don't know what to do with your uncooperative puppy, you might consider a board and train CT program to get him on track and your life back to normal.

When work and school takes all the family members out of the house all day, training a puppy can become problematic. It may be that boarding the dog with a trainer for a week or two is the best solution. There are basically two types of training environments available, in home and kennel.

When you choose the in home program, your pet will live with the trainer's family for several weeks, usually two. One of the benefits of these programs is that pets are living outside cages. They are learning proper etiquette that most families require of indoor pets. These include house training and respect for boundaries. The puppies will also develop social skills when they interact with other animals in the household that are being trained.

Kennel programs are much more structured. Puppies are housed in outdoor cages except when they are involved in training sessions. They don't have the same informal interaction with humans as those in home training. If you request additional exercise for your pet, or walks on a leash, it may cost you more.

These programs deal with basic training, such as learning sit, come, heel, and stay commands. Professionals house train animals. Trainers teach puppy manners like not pulling on leashes, not jumping on people, and not rushing a door.

Dogs that have serious behavioral problems such as excessive shyness and aggression are often subject to behavior modification methods like desensitizing. When you have a pet that is aggressive, you need to know if the trainer plans to use collars on them that shock or choke in an attempt to coerce the animal into better behavior. Some trainers believe that flooding is an appropriate technique to use. If you object to this method, you need to say so.

There are advantages and disadvantages to boarding your pet while being trained. One big advantage is that you will have the services of a professional trainer. This is someone who knows animals and how to modify behavior quickly. If you are planning a vacation, and have to leave your pet anyway, boarding him is a practical solution to both of your problems.

One of the disadvantages of this service is that you won't know exactly what is happening at the kennel or in a trainer's home. You have to trust that you are leaving your pet in good hands. Animals often regress once they return home. You should not expect a perfectly trained puppy even with this intensive training. It will be up to you to reinforce the lessons he learned.
