Guidelines To A Successful Puppy Potty Training Class

By Lisa Clark

A lot of homeowners are busy, and once they leave home in the morning, they return home late and tired. If you are among these people, the last thing you want is to return home and find that your pet has messed the home. You can get frustrated with having the pet in the first place. However, with the right toilet training, your pup will not soil your home again. Below are the keys to a successful puppy potty training class.

One of the keys for a successful training lesson is introducing the pup to the family and the areas it is supposed to explore. During the first day at the new place, it might be nervous or joyful. It is good you create a relationship with the pet so that it can learn to respect everyone in the house. In addition, show the pup only the areas he or she is allowed to roam. Do not allow the pup in areas that are off limit.

The next step is to have a deeper insight into the pup in terms of behavior and needs. Start by doing some background checks on the breed that you have bought and learn about their behavior. Keeping a close eye on the pup most of the time can help you study its behavior. You can learn clues like sniffing, barking, circling and scratching the floor to know when the pooch needs to poop or pee.

When you see the pup sniffing, scratching or barking, you will know what it wants. What is left now is picking a spot for the pooch where it will be relieving itself. Places that are used by other dogs as bathrooms should not be an option because they can spread diseases. A good spot will be easily accessible, easy to clean and not a public place unless the pup has been vaccinated. It makes sure to masters the spot, keep it on a leash the first few times.

During these visits, pick some command words that you will use to direct the dog to the toilet area. Certain words like go will be easy for the pooch to recognize and understand what it is being asked to do. Avoid using words that might confuse the pet.

Additionally, when accidents occur by the dog urinating or defecating inside your home, take action fast. Ammonia contained in the urine is used by dogs to locate their toilet so by failing to clean up fast, you will encourage them to use the house as a bathroom. Apply enzymatic cleaners to remove the ammonia during washing.

Another key thing is keeping the puppy close. Limit the area the dog can explore in the house. When it is close, it will be easy to notice when it needs to go outside and help it. Although the area should be limited, it should be enough for the pup to play. The room should make it easy for the pooch to access outside.

In conclusion, be consistent in what you do. Always use the same door when taking the pet outside. Do not change the command and the toilet spot to make it a routine. In the process, you will learn how often the dog needs to go out and then come up with a schedule.
