The Way To Register My Puppy

By Catherine Ward

To be a responsible pet owner involves ensuring that the pet is registered by the relevant body. In the United States, dogs are the most kept pets. Hence all owners are needed to dully register them. Among the most popular pet registries in the United States is the American Kennel Club (AKC) although others exist. When a dog is registered with any of the well-known registries, the owner gets access to informational/educational services. When, how, and why it is important to register my puppy.

When registered with a registry, it allows one to have their dog take part in various contests and events that are organized and managed by these registries. Apart from showing that one is a responsible pet owner, registering a pet is required by the law too. All individuals who own pets are needed by the government to register them through the right channels. As a fact, it is unlawful not to register a pet.

Even though there are several registries available for one to consider, it is important to know why it is important to have pets registered. Among the many benefits, registering a dog provides valid proof of ownership. In case the pet strays away of gets lost, it can be easier to locate the owner. Many pets are usually returned to their owners every years because they are registered.

For purebred breeds, registering the dog goes a long way in ensuring that the pedigree remains intact from generation to generation. Purebred registries also offer additional services such as keeping birth records. There are also registries that register dogs that are not purebreds. Examples of such registries are the National Hydrid Registry and the Dog Registry of America.

Registered dogs are usually fitted with microchips which are tied around their neck. These chips are programmed with special identification numbers. In the event that the pet is lost and found by a rescue squad, the chip will be scanned to ascertain the owner of the pet. This way, the pet can be returned back to the owner easily.

The possibility of finding the owners of lost pets is essential in removing millions of dogs from the streets yearly. In this regard, the streets are left dog-free and clean. Some dogs end up in dog shelters. This is because sometimes they do not have trackers on them or their trackers are faulty. This means shelter workers will find it hard locating owners. In such cases, the dogs are euthanized or given up for adoption.

Apart from AKC, the United Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club are the two other respectable registries in North America. The two registries have websites where one can learn if their dog can be registered by them. These websites have lists of breeds of canines that are eligible in various registries.

There are registries that are meant for specific breeds. Other registries are meant for service dogs without regard to the breed. One should search the history of the registry before they make a decision. Some canines are very rare, which makes it hard to find them on lists of dogs accepted by various registries. Such dogs can be registered under the American Rare Breed Association.
