Effective Guidelines On Training Mature And Obstinate Jack Russell

Many people think that training an old and stubborn jack russell is more problematic than when you try to train puppies. Though certain cases can verify that statement, jack russell training can still be made effective and enjoyable even if you're going to handle old, stubborn dogs. And that is through the application of the right training methods, tools and equipments. Moreover, large doses of enthusiasm, patience and persistence can be very beneficial. What's more, many resources can now lend you a hand in training different dog breeds, be it naturally stubborn or obedient.

Do you believe in the old saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks?" Indeed, training an old dog may truly wear you out, especially if the pet's a new member of the family. Making a newly-adopted, old jack russell adhere to your commands is certainly not going to be that easy. Mature dogs have already adopted to their own means which they have developed before they have been taken in by their new owners. Thus, training an old and stubborn jack russell for obedience may require ten-folds the time it will take to train a new puppy.

Then again, training an old jack russell has to be undertaken as a goal rather than as a burden. Hard-to-manage, disobedient and lazy old dogs mustn't be taken for granted. Oftentimes, it can be their past master's negligence why such dogs become hard to train. The lack or absence of training while dogs are still young is mainly the reason why older dogs resist to corrections along with the new owner's attempt to give them their needed jack russell training. Therefore, you can't surrender in training old dogs because this will help correct their bad behaviors which they thought were normal and acceptable.

If you have been training puppies ever since you chose to adopt dogs and is now facing the dilemma of training an older jack russell, then try to alter your outlook. Don't expect jack russell training for puppies to work on dogs that have already matured. Though you can implement some of the basics of training a young dog, it is advisable to be more open-minded and very diligent with a large, old and stubborn jack russell. Moreover, be clear and persistent with your commands. Practice and continuous yet clear repetition make perfect. Avoid confusing an old jack russell as this will prompt boredom and make him become more disobedient.

Be more inventive and strict. Make old and stubborn dogs feel that you are the leader of the pack; an alpha dog they shouldn't resist. Understand the jack russell's actions and be vigilant. If he sits before you even began to give the command, pretend that what he did was a good job, praise him and give a treat. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of craziness to outsmart an already cunning old jack russell. Always look for ways where you can catch his interest without startling him. Just don't fall for his trap that could make you give in or tolerate his unwanted actions.

Avoid giving harsh, unnecessary punishments. Punishing an old and stubborn jack russell may only result to further aggression. Besides, old or mature jack russells are way bigger and stronger. You won't be able to handle their aggressiveness; thus, always stay calm and patient. Treat your jack russell well and you may be rewarded with good responses. Try to implement positive jack russell training approach instead of being punitive. Understand the causes of your dog's poor habits so you will know how to deal with it. When you do the right things, you can be assured of the best results when training an old and stubborn jack russell.
