Pet Meds In Recovering The Health Of The Fury Friend

UK is a country well known for its high population of pets. On average, there is one animal in every two homesteads. The market for animal medicines is also remarkably high and approximates to 200 million in a year. Of late, the new regulations governing animal drugs made it possible for pet owners to purchase pet meds from a chemist direct. It is, however, surprising that many owners of animals are still lagging behind even after much efforts by the government. As such, educating Brits about the rights of their fury friends to accessing appropriate medication is very important.

So far, four categories of animal medicines are in the market legally since the year 2005. These are explained as following:

POM-V is the category of pet medicines that have numerous statutory requirements. It is required that the animal is subjected to a thorough clinical assessment before issuance of a prescription. The diagnosis must be carried out by a qualified surgeon or vet.

POM-VPS are medicines that must be prescribed and supplied by a veterinary surgeon, pharmacist or suitably qualified person. It is not necessary for an examination to be carried out by the prescriber however they must be satisfied that the medicines are being correctly administered in a safe and appropriate manor for the intended purpose.

NFA-VPS are medicines supplied by a pharmacist or a vet. However, any other professional in the field of animal health science can distribute and prescribe, as well.The drugs are for animals meant to offer companion to human beings.

AVM-GSL category comprises of drugs that have the least statutory requirements. The medicines are sometimes referred to as over the counter drugs. They are general use drugs but this should not imply accuracy in prescription be ignored.

Flea and tick mitigation

To protect the health of your pets and yourself it is recommended that your fury friend should be regularly treated for ticks and fleas. Up to 50% of all cats and 25% of dogs will be infested with fleas each year. For every flea on your cat or dog there could be as many as 50 around your home. For this reason you will also need to treat soft furnishings too.

It is advisable to use shampoos, powders, spot on drops and flea collars when preventing fleas. Ideally, intervals of 28 to 35 days are acceptable. For optimum results, vacuuming, flea sprays and pet bedding washing can be used in conjunction with the shampoos. Such combinations can end up destroying ticks, as well.

Some of the aforementioned treatments are not applicable to juvenile pets. For animals hardly three months old, specialized tools should be used. For instance, a head lice comb can be used to remove fleas from young pets instead of spraying.

Dual treatments can protect against the risks from ticks as well which carry Lyme disease and can cause serious illness.

Protection from intestinal parasites

Sometimes people concentrate so much on the provision of external treatment of pets from fleas and ticks, but they forget that the internal bodies of the fury friends are equally indispensable for considerations. Therefore, pet owners are obliged to ensure that intestinal attack by roundworms and tapeworms of the animals is minimal. As such, regular worming at intervals of three months is significant for the sturdy health of an animal.

A dual wormer is an effective way of protecting your pet and they are available in tablet, granule or liquid form.

Eye infections

It is not rare for pets to encounter eye complications that are expressed as discharges, mild irritations, cloudiness and redness of their eyes. However, the symptoms are easy to detect and remedy. Eye infections such as dry eye, glaucoma, and corneal abrasions need urgent attention in order to avoid eye loss or blindness by the animal.

Ear care

The internal part of the ear of any animal is hairy in nature. As such, a lot of dust is likely to trap within the forest of hair leading to increased chances of infections rapture. Therefore, cleaning the ears of your animals is a paramount requirement to reduce chances for infections. In addition, regular advice from a vet on the right method of cleaning the ears helps avoid accidental piercing of the eardrum or cutting the ear canal.

Alimentary canal complications

Gastrointestinal problems are a very common ailment that your pet may suffer from. Symptoms of their digestive problems can include difficulty in swallowing, loss of appetite, constipation, and diarrhoea. Problems can resolve themselves when the digestive system is given a rest, however more serious conditions can result in weight loss, dehydration and exhaustion. It is very important that you seek medical advice from your vet if you pet is vomiting, bloated, straining to pass a stool or not eating.

Your pet can benefit from a healthy lifestyle just as you can. Ensure you pet is eating healthily and getting plenty or exercise. Together with good hygiene this can prevent problems from occurring in the first place. Keeping you pet healthy will also protect you and your family from conditions that can be transferred to humans including roundworm and tapeworm that infect cats and dogs.
