By Beryl Dalton

Whether your idea of a favorite pet is a dog or a cat, the love you share with them is equally important and treasured. They have the knack of evoking an instant happiness and boundless energy which is stress relieving and often contagious. Most people seem to gravitate to a certain breed, such as the popularity of the English Springer Spaniel puppies for sale.

Often Mom and Dad are nagged and begged by the children to adopt a pet, until they can prove that they will take their responsibilities concerning it very seriously. Taking care of a companion, be it a dog, cat, fish or even an iguana, is serious business. The daily routine comprises of grooming, feeding, and making sure they have had their walk and been taught the house rules, whilst not forgetting to add time, attention and love to their day, which plays a vitally large role.

With a little research, a reputable one is sure to be found in your area. Check their ratings, and study the pictures available of all the puppies on sale as advertised. Never pick them purely based on an online viewing though, as a personal pre-purchase visit can tell a lot about your favorite.

Whilst the excitement might blur the formalities, it is worth remembering that there are a few checks before finalizing the choice. First of all the conditions of the puppy's birthplace environment should be clean, hygienic and filled with love and appreciation. This helps understand whether the correct procedures concerning vaccinations and de-worming have been satisfied by a seller who has all the dog's best interests at heart.

A certificate is sometimes provided upon sale indicating their full medical history from birth, including their immunization history as well as any further medical notices of procedures carried out. This is very helpful since it outlines the correct medicinal procedures were diligently followed to the benefit of the animal and their future health. It allows for peace of mind, as well as to set the precedent for future care.

As their character is usually sociable both with other pets and with humans, it is probably a good choice with families who already have another dog at home. This trait is only enhanced by the socialization process when young by the breeders, and then continued at their new home. Sometimes, they might be a little aggressive with other dogs of the same sex though, however this will depend on the individual's temperament and pride.

A professional breeder can be very helpful with information regarding issues that the breed is vulnerable to. Most will inform the new owner of illnesses such as cataracts, hip Dysplasia, and for some epilepsy. Luckily though, most of these can be avoided by purchasing your favorite from a reputable breeder who has a firm understanding on the genetics of the pups. They carefully select their breeding stock to avoid these issues at all costs.

One thing is for sure however, that once the right choice has been made, the bond formed between the family and their new pet can never be undone. It is a precious, loyal and loving relationship which is built immediately and savored as the years pass. Each moment should be cherished and savored, even amongst the busiest of families, where somehow, time is always found to enjoy playing and interacting with your animal companion.
