Fun Furry Pets Pomeranians For Sale

By Brenda Warner

These little furry balls of energy are one of the most popular breeds in America. Pomeranians are a toy breed and the dogs weigh in around five pounds. Their double coat has a long over coat with a very dense undercoat. The long hair appears to stand on end, giving the little dog a larger silhouette than it would have minus the long hair. Oklahoma City, OK is happy to have caring breeders with Pomeranians for sale.

Poms, as they are often called, have the undeserved reputation of being barkers. Just about all dogs bark to some extent. Little breeds may have a higher pitched bark than the larger dogs. Poms will bark when they notice something or someone. A little pat on the head or picking the dog up will usually make the barking stop. However, if a dog is left alone for hours at a time this may result in a non stop barking fest. Poms need people, not solitude.

One thing a potential owner needs to understand is the level of care these dogs require. The thick double coat should be brushed daily, and the dogs should be groomed two to four times a month. This will take your time and your money. If you are not prepared to make this commitment, perhaps a lower maintenance dog would be a better choice for you. The Poms were bred from the German Spritz breed to be small lap dogs that need people. Make sure this is the right pet for you.

Their coats come in a variety of colors, from black to white. Some are chocolate or tri colored, but all are cute as can be. The make wonderful family pets, and the children will really love the little dogs. Most breeders love all the dogs and care for them with love never putting the puppies in cages.

An Oklahoma City breeder likes to breed the puppies to be a little larger than usual. This breeder think it makes for a stronger pet. They specialize in Poms that are called parti or exotic. The parti puppies have lightly colored coats wtih some dark areas over the body for a sort of calico effect.

The exotic Poms have coats with colors rarer than white, black or brown. Some exotic colors are blue, a sort of gray blue, deep chocolate and sable. Another type of Pom is called the merle. Merle Pomeranians have a base color of red, black or brown with some lighter colors appearing randomly over the body giving the dogs a mottled look.

Some toy breeds have a lot of health issues. Despite their small size the dogs are a relatively sturdy breed. The Poms are friendly to almost all humans, but may become aggressive with other dogs. It can be comical to see a five pound Pomeranian barking in the face of a larger dog.

Breeders care for their puppies so much that they prefer to meet the new owners in person. Shipping a dog is not a pleasant experience for the animal and should be avoided. Make it a special family trip to get the newest addition to the family. This puppy will be in your life for years to come.
