By Sandra Kelly

More likely than not you are reading this article since you are looking for a new or replacement cat as a future pet and companion. Some of people you know may have recommended that you get a ragdoll as a companion, and this has got you somewhat interested. You may have started scouting around for a North Carolina ragdoll kittens seller, but before you make a final decision please finish this article first.

This cat has the peculiar ability or knack for going suddenly limp when it is picked up or handled. It will seem boneless so it is given the name ragdoll. Colors of the cat ranges from the red and blue spectrum. All ragdolls will always have blue eyes and not any other color. Once males reach maturity, it can get as hefty as twenty pounds in weight with the females reaching fifteen pounds.

In general these felines will always make great and loving companions, and will be most suited for anyone who likes these characteristics in a pet. Its overt friendliness is its Achilles Heel however, as it can also be friendly with anyone apart from its master and thus very easy to kidnap or catnap. They should always be kept inside due to this. Their friendly nature also does not help them in a fight with any outdoor animal or stray.

The cat of this breed can be said to belong to one of the breeds that actually like water. As such, it will not give much of a fuss should it be time for its daily bath or wash. Do remember that the fur of the ragdoll is prone to matting and tangling and thus must be brushed at least twice a week. Expect more shedding when it gets rid of its winter coat in the spring.

On top of preventing matting and tangling, the twice weekly regular brushing will assist in the even distribution of essential oils. These essential oils, which are secreted through the skin, aid in the upkeep of the sheen of the fur and its durability. The regular brushing will also help in bonding between cat and master.

The cat is a like a dog in many respects, as it loves to follow its master around wherever he or she goes. It is also a feline that loves to paw things that it plays with rather than clawing them. This in turn makes them safe to be around children and there will be no need for declawing them.

In terms of average lifespan, this breed can reach around fifteen years to twenty years. However this can be extended if you give it proper health and nutrition maintenance, so you should see your vet regularly. Keeping it inside a majority of the time ensures it does not get any communicable diseases.

In sum this article has looked at and discussed some aspects of owning this cat. Regardless of what pet you will be getting always get as much information you can before committing, for you have to remember that it is a lot of responsibility in terms of looking after a pet.
