A New Dog Owner's Guide To Finding Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppies For Sale

By Donald Bell

There are so many different dog breeds available today that it can be difficult to figure out which one is best for your family. If you are looking for a fun and lively dog that is not overly large you may want to look and see if there are any miniature Australian shepherd puppies for sale. These dogs can be great companions for children and adults alike. Here is what you need to know about the breed.

If you are familiar with the Australian shepherd, you have a rough idea of what to expect from a "mini Aussie". Like it's larger counterparts, mini shepherds tend to be very high energy. They have the same working dog attitude that larger Aussies do. This means that to stay happy, a miniature Aussie will need lots of exercise.

Unlike some dog breeds, mini Aussies are not hard to find. A number of breeders are beginning to see the appeal of these dynamic little canines and are offering pups for sale. If you want to speak to breeders about their dogs and maybe see one or more of them in action there are several ways that you can find their contact information.

If you are out at a dog park or at a dog show and you see a mini Australian shepherd you may want to ask its owner where they got their dog. This is an especially good idea if you like the coat color or if you like a particular dog's personality more than others you have met in the past.

You can also find breeders online as well. If you are working off of websites you will want to be a bit cautious. If you can, visit the breeder at their home and inspect the place where the pups are being born and raised. Make sure it is clean and that the pups are healthy and well-socialized.

There are a few things that you will want to avoid when working with a breeder. The first is a breeder who does not screen for health issues in their dogs. Mini Aussies are generally fairly healthy but, as with any breed of dog, there is always the potential for health problems.

You may also want to think about what color of pup that you want. Some pups are available in tri-color and merle versions. Some coat colors are harder to find and the pups that are those colors will often be more expensive.

Bringing home a new pup is fun and exciting. When it is time to pick up your new puppy ask the breeder for blankets that smell like its litter mates as well as a supply of the food that the puppy has been eating. This way you can ensure that there is as little change as possible which can help your pup adjust to its new home much more quickly and smoothly than might otherwise be possible.
