Tips For Raising Exotic Shorthair Kittens

By Andrew Brown

You may have hobbies which you indulge in after work, but sometimes even these may not occupy your time. To avoid getting bored and lonely, you can get pet exotic shorthair kittens. These felines will occupy themselves during the day, and you will have something to fuss over when you get home. Young animals are delicate, and therefore, you need to know as much as possible about their care, before you buy or adopt one.

Most people have heard the horrific stories of individuals who mistreat animals, just so that they can make money from their offspring. Animals brought up at animal mills might have internal parasites or undetected genetic issues. To avoid these problems go to an animal shelter. Here, you will get a healthy animal desperately in need of a home.

The easier way to tell between different animal breeds is by looking their physical traits. Exotic Shorthairs are cute felines that tend to look like they are frowning. Additionally, they have short Persian like fur, but their coats are thicker, as their name suggests. They also tend to be stocky with short legs and necks.

Book an appointment with a veterinary, once you have arranged the adoption of your kitten. This person should be reputable, and they will assess the well-being of your cat. They will tell of any illnesses you need to be on the lookout for, as well as the ideal foods to feed it. This is important because some breeds are genetically more susceptible to some diseases than others.

Although most young animals can naturally take care of themselves, there are still things they will need to learn from their mothers. Therefore, to avoid disrupting the life of your kitten too much, do not take them before they are at least ten weeks old. This way, they will know basic things like how to cover their excrement.

You will need to be fully prepared for living with a cat. This means you need to buy all the essential items, from toys for them to play with to a litter box. You may also need to make some changes around the home like getting rid of dangling cables and storing your things out of the reach of your feline companion.

Cats can clean themselves, but when they are young, you will need to step in. Their regular grooming will involve cleaning them to ensure they do not have fleas of ticks as well as brushing them, to prevent them from shedding all over your furniture. Start washing your cat from an early age to ease them into the routine. Avoid using heavily scented soaps for this.

These breed of felines is very docile, while still being playful all the way to adulthood. They, therefore, make good companions for both adults and children. However, they are not suitable for people allergic to fur.
