By Michelle Gibson

You want to choose a young cat for domestication. This may not be an easy process especially when you are getting it from a litter. They are different from those that are pure bred and may require a close observation to ensure that you choose the one that is easy for upkeep. The following factors should guide you through choosing a healthy North Carolina Ragdoll kittens.

Health. Before you consider adopting it, check the health of the cat by assessing the visible symptoms that may be displayed in various body parts. The nose and eyes should not have any discharge. The eyes are supposed to be shiny and transparent. Smooth skin with no lumps, odorless ears, gums, mouth and tongue with no sores and anal that is not discolored. These all demonstrate and determine the health of a healthy cat. If all these correspond, consider consulting a veterinarian for a deeper examination to ensure that the kit is not infected.

Personality, it determines the ease of domestication. Those that have good personal skills are easy to cooperate and keep. Cats should be friendly. When you play around it has to respond by being very active in playing with you. Cats respond to touch and any efforts that are made to test their degree of being friendly.

Family. Family determines the behavior of the kitty. It helps them learn the proper and desirable ways. They learn from both their parents and sibling. Eating habits and a good personality are all obtained from a family circle. This means that one should not choose an orphaned cat because it may lack these skills unless when they have done a lot of consultation.

A social behavior, the kit that has been exposed to different social environments learns how to survive within different settings. Choose one that has grown with many people around and within a given homestead. These have heard on various noises around the house and socialization habits with human beings.

Parents and siblings, it is not easy to determine the behavior of the cat before it is old enough. This means that you can quickly make misconceptions on its behavior especially on early stages of development. It is therefore important that you choose the one that you know its family members such as siblings and parents because they tend to have behavioral similarities.

Age is the one that determines the behavior and mostly the health of a sibling. A well-aged cat has all the eyes fully opened and hence can operate without guidance. It has stayed with the family long enough to learn the acceptable behaviors and also has finished suckling. These all shapes the behavior and independence of a given cat.

Hair length. Is it short, medium or long? The size of the hair determines the rate and amount of shedding. Consider buying one whose color match that of your house furniture to make this process less stressful for you.

Gender, it determines the cost of domestication. For example, you may need a cat that will not expose you to so many costs unless you are pure breeding for commercial purposes. If this is not the case, consider domesticating a male cat to cut off some of these expenses.
