About The Best Giant Schnauzer Breeders

By Georgia Diaz

You will probably find numerous Giant Schnauzer breeders in your area. The breed was created in the seventeenth century in Germany. It still isn't clear which breeds were used, but they most certainly include Standard Schnauzers, Rottweiler, Boxer and Great Danes. The point was to create good, reliable working dog with dense, curly, weather and pest bites resistant fur.

Giant Schnauzers come in two color variations, solid black and salt and pepper. Salt and pepper variation is actually a mixture of black, white and gray fur, and it can really look very interesting. Schnauzers come as Standard, Miniature and Giant variations, all recognized breeds. Giants should be 25, 5 inches high, and females should be two inches lower.

Like all other Schnauzers, Giants also have distinctive eyebrows and beards. Their incredibly dense and curly hair is difficult to maintain, and you need to get it clipped regularly, even if you are not interesting in dog shows. If you are, you will have to strip your dog's hair regularly, and to crop his ears.

Bred as a work dog for generations, this dog is quiet and obedient, very loyal and especially devoted to its owner. He can become very good guard dog or police dog, but, properly educated, also a perfect family dog. If you are an active person, and live in a house, you should consider buying this lovely dog.

Some diseases are quite common when it comes to this particular breed. For example, hip and elbow dysplasia. They can also have problems with their eyes, and this includes cataract, glaucoma and some other diseases. Their skin is very sensitive, and it is important to use very mild shampoos only, because they are quite prone to skin allergies. They can also get diabetes or have different heart problems.

Although very strong, temperamental and active, sometimes even quite territorial, this dog is really very quiet and gentle. He will play with your children, but also protect them in case they get in some dangerous situation. He is extremely loyal and devoted to his owners, but he needs to be treated properly.

Schnauzers need plenty of exercise to remain healthy, strong and obedient. They require very long walks or the opportunity to play outside for hours. It might be a good idea to have another dog to keep him company, if you don't have enough time to satisfy his exercise needs. Bred as a work dog, he will be very happy if you give him some kind of job to do.

If you decide to buy a Giant Schnauzer, you need to understand what is expected from you. You have to be firm and consistent in training, if you want to have calm and obedient pet. Schnauzers are naturally dominant dogs, and they need to learn who the pack leader is. Reward his good behavior, but let him know he has to obey, gently, but consistently.

Schnauzers are well known and highly appreciated breed for centuries. Most Giant Schnauzer breeders will explain to you how to take care of your new puppy. Ask them about the best food and consult them about grooming. If you decide to have a dog, you have to be responsible and reliable owner, and to take really good care of your lovely animal.
