By Angela Briggs

Equestrians all over the country are looking for fast and easy ways to shop for new equipment. There are quite a few items such as helmets and boots that are considered essential attire for anyone who rides horses. Those who participate in shows and events will need a lot more specialized horse riding products. One of the easiest ways to shop is to go on line.

Most districts have their local tack store. This is a shop devoted to selling all things equestrian. They will carry a range of helmets, boots, breeches and show clothing. Stopping by at a local store is the best way to get expert help. Those new to the sport may be unsure of what they need. An experienced sales person will be able to find a well fitting helmet and boots for them. These items are considered the necessary basics for any new rider.

Young riders should be taught to wear an approved helmet at all times. This means from the moment they walk into the barn until they leave. Many people do not realize that accidents can happen just from being around a horse. They are large creatures who are very strong, they are also quite nervous and will try to run away from anything that scares them. Picking the horses feet is a particularly hazardous job and a startled animal can easily kick out. Wearing a helmet at this time has saved many people from serious injury.

All riders, especially youngsters should be taught to wear their helmet at all times when they are around the horses. This means when they are leading, grooming or tacking up their mount. Horses are typically very gentle and seem to enjoy interaction with people. However, if they are scared or startled they can jump quickly or even kick out. This is an instinctive action done to protect themselves but if a person is in the way they can be injured. Helmets have saved many lives and minimized a lot of injuries.

Riding jeans or breeches are another important item of clothing for any equestrian. Although it is possible to ride in everyday jeans they quickly become uncomfortable and can also cause chafing. English style riders wear tight fitting jodhpurs or breeches. These are a very traditional form of attire that are now available in lots of colors and styles.

Western turnout is a lot more relaxed. Riders typically wear jeans, cotton button up shirts and cowboy style hats. The look has been developed from the ranch hands of the western states. They spent many days in the saddle and everything had to be not only practical but also very comfortable. Boots had thick heels to prevent their feet slipping through the stirrups.

Boots are also considered an essential item for riders. A well made boot with a good heel will prevent the foot from slipping through the stirrup. Most boots are made from black or brown leather and should be polished regularly to keep them in shape.

Horse riding products are available to purchase from local retail stores or from big on line companies. Shoppers should take their time to really look at all the options to find something that meets their needs and is within their price range.
