What To Know About Leopard Print Dog Collars

By Harriet Porter

Markets currently have different kinds and designs of collars for various applications. Leopard print dog collars have several similarities to others, but they have imprints of leopard coats on them. Different types of collars are Elizabethan, stud, buckle, flea, reflective, safety stretch, slip, spiked, painted, break-away, and oilcloth collars. Major uses of most of the types are beauty, safety, identification, security, and training among many others.

Buckle type ribbons are the most commonly used and available on most markets. Their name results from the fact that they contain buckles used to wrap them around the neck. They are commonly used for restraining dogs using a leash. Common applications include providing a means for walking, training, and securing dogs. The buckles provide a tight attachment that cannot loosen to release the canine or tighten up to strangle it.

Flea ribbons do the same functions as the buckle collar, but provide additional functionality. The items are purposely meant for rebuffing fleas. The fiber or materials they are constructed from are normally infused with chemicals that are capable of keeping fleas and insects away. The chemicals emit toxic gases or are absorbed into the skin of the animal. This is an important function especially if the animal is wounded and needs to heal fast because insects can cause more injury or infect wounds.

Break-away collars provide safety to dogs from injury or strangulation in many different cases. They are commonly used on aggressive, restless, or playful dogs. Strangulation or injuries can be sustained by restlessness dogs when they get stuck in shrubs, kennels, or fences with no one near to rescue them. Break-away ribbons become useful in situations like those ones since application of enough force snaps them open.

Dogs struggling under dangerous situations are freed by safety release knobs incorporated in break-away ribbons. When the band gets entangled, the buckle opens automatically. This renders the product very beneficial. Snapping the item back together makes it usable again.

A lighted or reflective collar is used to make dogs visible to owners and motorists at night. They come in a wide range of color, even though most manufacturers make them blue or red. The light comes from light emitting diodes that are built into the material making the product. The LEDs are powered by small batteries. Small batteries are used so as to avoid adding any significant weight to the collar.

Floatation ribbons are also sometimes referred to as buoyant ribbons. They get used as swimming aids for canines. The head of the dog is given some buoyancy when in water. These product must however not be mistaken with life jackets or preservers because the two are different. They mainly are utilized during hydrotherapy sessions to rehabilitate injured canines. They may be inflated with air or made of foam to make them buoyant.

Modern day collars cost differently depending on various factors. Some of them include material, type, manufacturer, use, and features incorporated. Some of the products can be used for more than one function.
