Caring For Your New Mini Husky

By Ericka Marsh

Miniature huskies were created as a new breed of dog close to 20 years ago. They look just like the standard version of this canine. However, they are much smaller and are known for being energetic, curious, but also a bit more reserved. Given their appearance and clear blue eyes, the mini husky variety is quickly becoming a favorite of dog owners everywhere. If you have decided to add one of these animals to your family, you would do well to know how to properly take care of it.

These huskies are quite a bit smaller in size and thus are more fragile by design. The small gene in them has been developed over time to make them shorter and also only allow them to weigh around 13 pounds on average. This breed was started in the 1990s by a woman who wanted to create a smaller version of the huskies that most people know and recognize today.

Unlike standards, these canines are not as personable and robust. They are in fact quite small and more standoffish, which is why you are encouraged to start socialization of your pup from the beginning. They need to be taught to accept newcomers and to resist their urge to hide or shy away from people who they do not know.

Along with socialization, you are encouraged to get your dog all of its shots. This type of canine is smaller and will only grow to about 13 pounds in weight. Because it will be smaller, it can have more delicate health, making it necessary for you to keep its shots updated and for you to take it to the vet every six months to a year.

Because they are smaller, their fur tends to be finer. If you allow them to go without regular brushing, their fur could get matted and dirty. Getting your dog groomed every three to four months at a professional grooming salon can keep your pet's fur looking healthy and glossy.

If you are comfortable bathing your dog at home, you might do well to buy a pet shampoo made from oatmeal. Oatmeal is renowned for keeping away problems with dog skin like eczema and dandruff. It also prevents rashes from developing. After you bathe your pet, you may brush it with a fine brush until the fur is smooth and glossy.

This type of canine can be high-spirited and energetic. Keeping it in a confined space could cause it to damage your house or break your belongings. Rather than allow its energy to be pent up in such a manner, it might suit you to move to a place that has a fenced-in backyard or a large property. You might also use a leash to take your pet on a run in the park.

Mini huskies are popular with people everywhere now. When you want to add one of these animals to your home, you may need some tips on how to care for it well. These suggestions could help you keep your dog happy and keep it healthy for years to come.
