By Tammie Caldwell

As much as living with a blind dog can be very difficult, its also a satisfying experience. It is well known that when your pet goes blind, it will need care which could not be further from the truth. Its also true that most visually impaired dogs can move around with ease around the house after it becomes familiar with the surrounding. Help for blind dogs provide the tips you want to take care of your dog in case it goes blind or already showing signs for blindness.

Moving your furniture around can prove a hard task for your dog to maneuver around the home. Try not to move anything to be out of place from what they are used to. The floors should be clear at all times. Remove objects that could hinder their movements. When a dog constantly bumps into something when moving, it will be scared.

All dogs love going for walks and if you used to take your dog for the walk, do not stop now by all means. Go on with the routine. Use a harness with a shorter leash than a long leash. This will give them some sense of security because it will now feel closer to you since it knows that you are closer t him. It will also help you to keep control over the dog.

Cushion or Cover the sharp corners and objects in your home so that they will not run into them and in the end hurt themselves. The surfaces that could be detrimental include door facings or cabinets. Floor runners that are textured can be used to guide the movements of your dog from room to room in your home.

Normally, when got by surprise or when someone sneaks up on you, you get startled. It is the same thing that will happen to the dog only it will be worse because the pet is visually impaired. It might end up terrified and really anxious and will not be comfortable. Also, try to fence your compound especially if your dog spends most of its time outside.

Attaching phrases and familiar words to your daily communication with your pet helps it feel connected to you as the sound of your voice reassures and gives it a sense of security. The words that you can use include; stay, eat, sit and go. You can create your own words that you will both be comfortable with depending on your daily routine.

It is a blessing at the same time enjoyable to have visitors in your home. Most visitors may be a bit too friendly especially with your pet. They might not like this because the person is a stranger at the same time it is a stranger. Inform your visitors that your pet is blind and let the pet sniff them so that it will have their scent.

In summary dealing with a visually impaired dog will be easier if a leash is available. The harness helps the dog to know where the owner is, which restores its confidence. You should give freedom to your dog to roam during the day, but at night you should confine it.
