Longmont CO Puppy Training Advice

By Rebecca Johnson

As soon as you get a new puppy, the training process should begin. It is not always easy to get started with this, but it will be rewarding. You will be thankful once the puppy grows up and becomes more obedience. Longmont CO puppy training is necessary, just like you would raise one of your children. At times, you may think of going to a professional class, because this can also be helpful.

In the beginning, the puppy will feel a little uneasy. They may whine a lot. If you comfort them too much, this will carry on into their adult years. You have to know when the dog is whining because there is something wrong, or you have to ask yourself whether this is for a reward. This can happen because of mixed messages they received as a young puppy.

When you are choosing your dog's name, it is important to do this with care. Make sure that you find something easy and quick that the dog will understand. This is good for the purposes of discipline. Dogs with shorter names will learn them with greater ease. The longer names are difficult to adjust and adapt to. You will have an easier time with a less lengthy name as well.

Praise them when they have done a good job. Give them a treat when they have gone the extra mile. This will be reinforced in their brain. However, don't overdo the treats. These should be reserved for special occasions. Don't raise your voice so loudly so that they are going to become afraid, but make sure that they know the difference between right and wrong.

At this stage, a puppy won't be used to playing with other dogs. It is important to socialize with other puppies so this is something that they become used to. You need to keep watch so that they can handle dominant dogs and so that they not too rough. They also need to be able to manage children from a young age, and this is something else you need to encourage.

Housebreaking can be something that can be frustrating for many dog owners. You need to find a spot where the puppy knows that they can go to the toilet on a regular basis. Eventually this will be programmed into their brain. Take them outside after they have eaten and allow them sniff around. They will soon learn that this is where they must go to the toilet as well.

Everyone is different, and they will want to promote various rules for their dogs. This will depend on the individual and how relaxed or formal they are. Some folks want their dogs to sleep on their beds with them. Others don't mind if they sit on the sofa. However, there are people who have a bed for the dog and this is where they stay.

You also have to ask yourself more about what you prefer out of your basic house rules. This is important from the start. Some people will be more relaxed in this regard, allowing their dogs to hop onto the sofa. Other dogs are only allowed to head off to their bed.
