Qualities Of A Dressage Training Instructor

By Elizabeth Smith

There are increased horse activities as people take advantage of the sunny weather. Using a horse requires one must be a good rider failure to which one risks putting their lives in danger. Dressage training is hence important to give one the essential riding skills required. The following are some of the characteristics one can look for in a good instructor.

Being concerned with individual goals and needs of the learners is a quality that a trainer must have. This is because everyone has a different personality and different reasons for which they joined the program. Teaching them as a general class may risk compromising the needs of some of the students. It is hence important to focus on each one of them as an individual.

Relating well with the learners helps them to respect you as a trainer, and as a result, they can focus on your instructions. When a learner is not happy with the way his teacher treats him, he will not be in a position to enjoy any class no matter how exciting it is to his mates. The trainer should be able to enhance a good relationship by appreciating each trainee and being friendly to them.

The whole training process mainly involves communication. The trainer is always sending a message to the trainees on horse riding tips. He is also taking questions from them and hearing matters affecting the lessons that are being raised. Having the ability to talk to them and to listen too is hence essential. The better the skills, the faster the concept is understood.

Flexibility should be observed in every good trainer. Different days have different moods and challenges. It is up to the trainer to adjust to these moods while still sticking to his laid out schedule. The learner, for instance, might be in a bored or stressed mood. Being able to teach while cheering him up at the same time is a skill that enables the trainee to maintain the required focus to his lessons.

Patience is a virtue that every instructor should have. Since learners are different, their level of understanding is different too. Expecting them to move at the same pace may discourage those that take time to understand correctly. When dealing with beginners, you will be required to continually repeat a simple concept for them to understand it fully.

No matter how impressive the training is, there comes a time when some techniques seem too hard for the trainees. At this time they will feel down and start thinking they cannot do it. It is the work of their instructor to motivate them by letting them know that being perfect is not an instance occurrence. Giving examples of successful riders that had struggled with their training will act as a word of encouragement.

Instructors should be eager to acquire more knowledge. The fact that one knows a lot concerning his field of work does not mean that he should be contented with what he knows. Reading more and joining professional bodies will enable one to be aware of the latest trends in his field of work. Interacting with colleagues will give you a chance to learn new ideas and even know how to improve on the ones you already know.
