Soft or Hard Dog Food?

By Seram Marquis

When you have made the decision to feed your puppy only natural puppy food, there is still another important dog food decision that you need to make: soft or hard dog food?

Dogs just absolutely adore soft wet canned dog foods which is really no big surprise as soft dog food is without question more natural and aromatic compared to dry kibble packaged in a bag.

Unbelievable it maybe to us but how their food looks like is of little importance to dogs. To dogs the only significant things about their food are the taste and smell. Next to "people food", they find soft canned food the tastiest. This is mostly due to its inviting aroma.

On the other hand, you may have been told that dry food and other chewy items are a relevant part of your pet's dental health. That is no myth. Indeed some good chewing workout is needed by your developing puppy.

If your dog is being fed solely with canned dog food, you have to provide it with something to chew on. However, that does not necessarily have to be dry dog food. A good alternative to dry dog food will be dog treats like dog biscuits. Furthermore, you can give your dog a chew toy so it can have a regular teeth and jaw exercise.

While visiting the veterinarian for checkups, the vet will examine your dog's teeth and will alert or warn you of any issue that needs attending and correcting with a different type of dog food, more opportunities to chew, or even dietary supplements.

It is important for dogs to have access to hard materials that they can chew on. Chewing is their way of giving their powerful jaw muscles a work out and strengthening their teeth. This is how they provide themselves dental care. Chewing on hard materials also help loosen the build up of plaque and tartar.

Your choice of feeding your puppy with the best natural puppy food is an important one as it sets the condition and is a necessity in maintaining your puppy's dental health and nutritional requirements. If you decided to feed your dog the wet, soft and tasty canned foods that it adores, be certain that it has a fair amount of chew items it can exercise and have fun with.
