How to calm a dog

Dogs are the best friends and protectors of humans. These animals have made a great difference to the quality of people's life. Humans have been at the receiving end of these animals affection and comforting companionship. These animals that are known to be highly attuned to the feelings of humans have been the silent sounding boards for man's woes and misfortunes. However, dogs are not always the tough defender of man as there are instances when the dog would need to be protected and comforted. Pet owners have to learn how to calm a dog as these animals get stressed too.

Different situations in the environment can result to a circumstance where it is necessary to calm the pet. Frantic barking, excessive drooling, pitiful whining are manifestations of a stressed dog. Other dogs would react to a stressful environment in a different way. Highly stressed dogs can be hard to control. Situations that would set off the nervous behavior of the dog can range from unfamiliar faces and places to loud sound such as the sound of firecrackers or the rumbling sounds of thunder.

If the nervous behavior of the pet is not addressed it is highly possible that the pet will develop an irrational fear to these stressful situations. The quality of the dog's life will be affected so that the dog may lose weight and be lethargic. Dog owners would not want to see a highly stressed pet. Pet parents of highly stressed dogs have to find ways to calm the pet.

A pet owner can help the pet by knowing what causes the stress so that the situation can be avoided. As situations that creates nervous tension in dogs cannot be avoided at all times, a pet parent has to find other ways to calm the pet.

Dogs appreciate being petted. Pet owners use massage to calm the pet. By slowly moving the hand in over the dog's body, the tension is dissipated until the pet is calmed. Take advantage of the dog's inordinate liking for food by giving frozen Kong toys that are proven to effectively distract the dog's attention and ultimately calm the pet. Dogs are highly energetic animals. To calm the pet, an owner must ensure that the dog is given sufficient opportunities to exercise as tired dog are calm dogs. Have you tried the trick of yawning to calm your hyper pet? Among people, yawning is catching so that yawning in front of the pet can entice the do to yawn as well, to be calm and feel sleepy.
