Important Information When Bringing a Rescued Dog Into Your House

By Steve Cote

A new dog is difficult work, have little doubt that you will need to learn a lot about each other before you live in balance. If you have formerly owned a dog this will come a bit easier to you. All dogs are different and you'll still have to learn each other's habits. You as the human also have the responsibility of learning your dog's specific fears and troubles.

Now in my judgment, the adaption required when a new dog moves in is less complicated than opening your home to a new human being. This may sound a little backward as we've got our mother tongue to communicate with folk. Let's be honest though; few folks are as happy to please as a dog, particularly a rescued one.

Your new dog may settle in on the same day with little disturbance. Nice as it sounds though this is highly unlikely. Get ready for a couple of sleep-deprived nights especially if it is impractical to have the dog in your own bedroom. Be wary of advice from dog trainers or dog whisperers. Sadly some guidance can harm a fresh relationship with a worried dog. The control theory is an illustrative example of nasty dog obedience training advice. This will harm an owner's relationship with a new and insecure rescue dog.

Try to empathize, but not sympathize with your new friend. He does not know where he is and may have been rambling for a long time before ending up in rescue. Your dog could have been abused by the hands of ruthless humans and might be a little concerned about being near you till he can build up trust. In my previous experiences the dog that gets over abuse by having faith in a new owner will show attention unlike any other.

The important thing to consider about devoting some tenaciousness and time to a rescued dog is that things will improve. Those brown eyes so guarded, will one day reveal a sparkle that warms your heart and fills your own eyes with grateful tears. He'll sidle up to you one day and you'll know the bond you forged will never be broken. Talking as a person that has lived and worked with numerous rescued dogs the alteration of a lost canine soul nurtured by love is a reward beyond possible. These first few weeks of uncertainty will soon be forgotten.
