Finding A Good E Collar Alternative

By Sherry Gross

If you have a dog, you have to remember that there are times when a visit to the vets office would require him to undergo surgery. He may have a medical condition that warrants that or he just happened to hurt himself and a wound opened up. You know how important it is that the injured area is properly taken care of. Preventing them from doing any further damage to the area is crucial.

This can be a challenge though especially since these pets do tend to lick their wounds. Though they might find this a good idea to keep the area clean, this can cause issues along the way. They might reopen stitches especially for raw wounds. So, cones have to be attracted to their necks to prevent this from happening. Not many dogs like this though so, many owners are trying to find other E Collar alternative.

Often dubbed as the cone of shame, this is one item that a lot of pet tend to hate a lot. Many of them often act as if they have been punished when this is attached to their necks. Of course, being the ever loving owner that you are, you would want to find ways on how to make things easier fro your furry friend. You would want to know if there are ways that they can avoid having to wear one.

Apparently, your pet doctor would not be too happy if you will choose to not let the pet wear this. Sure, this might ave the pet from the shame and the angst that is brought about by wearing such a collar. However, it is going to affect him adversely in the long run. The fact that he will have free access to the wounded part of his body will only likely end up developing his desire to lick the area.

If the cone is really something that your pet ends up throwing tantrums for. Then you should think of finding other options that you may use on place of the cone. Instead of thinking about not letting him wear one, find ways on how you can get him to wear something for the same purpose, but may not be as cumbersome as the usual cone. There should be other ways that you can get him to heal better and faster too.

A good choice would be those blow up neck pillows. These are very similar as thew one that you buy at the airports that you can drape on your neck to make it easier for you to lean on your seat and get your neck some rest to avoid straining it too much. They can be used for the same purpose. Just make sure to find something that will help secure it in place.

There are ones that are made of paper too, you can choose to make these by yourself. However, you are advised to go for ones that are very durable so your pet is not going to end up tearing them in no time. This can be a good alternative so you can avoid having to spend a lot of money for buying an actual cone.

Other choices also include bandages, boxer shorts or those baby onesies. Bandages can be used to ensure that the wound is properly covered. This will help prevent the pet from reaching out to the area and licking it. Thus, you are confident that the would will not be reopened.
