If you are lifting a large dog, lift them from their bottom supporting their chest using your one arm and using your other arm to support their rear end. Never lift a dog by their back legs, tail, or the nape of their neck.

Look into subsidized medicare for your dog if money is tight. Many local communities, in conjunction with groups like the SPCA offer discounted services that have proved invaluable to dog lovers. Investigate getting your dog spayed or fixed and vaccinated for a small fraction of vet costs at a sponsored event probably close-at-hand to you.
