Small Dog Breeds Your Fast Introduction

By Mike Hartwick

Purchasing a dog can be a longtime commitment and if it is large one that is quite expensive too. Luckily, things are not only cheaper but simpler when you own one of the small dog breeds from their shots to food.

There are so many wonderful breeds to choose from that everyone can easily find one that suits them. Each has its own characteristics and traits they are known for, whether that be hair length or personality.

If you are interested in having a pet with a lot of energy, the Jack Russell Terrier is a big dog in a small package. Actually it is considered to be one of the most high energy breeds of all. This fact makes them ideal for adults who are fun-loving and active along with families that have older kids. You should expect to provide a solid hour of play or exercise per day to satisfy the needs of these intelligent and lively little dogs.

Not everyone is partial to high energy dogs. A more relaxed representative of the small dog breeds is the Pug. These adorable pooches were originally used as lap dogs in their home country of China. They don't need much exercise, just a short daily walk will do. However, this should be done when the temperature is not too hot, as they are not very heat tolerant. Their petite body size and minimal exercise needs make the Pug an excellent choice for anyone living in an apartment.

One of the most fun things about choosing a little dog is actually picking a name. And of course it is always hilarious to name them after something that is really large in size. Some of the best female and male dog names also can come from movie and book characters. But, since you'll be using it all the time, it's very important you pick one that you personally like and that isn't offensive to others.

You don't need a huge amount of space to be able to experience all the joys of owning a dog. It doesn't matter what your preferences are there are small dog breeds which can meet them and offer you their unconditional love. And don't forget to have some fun when it comes to choosing a name!
