How To Become The Pack Leader

We receive many dog training questions but the most asked question is " how to become the pack leader" by far. You will need to become the pack leader to show your dog that you are in charge and not them. As the pack leader you are the decision maker.

The importance of being the pack leader is rooted in understanding how dog packs work. If you leave the decisions to your dog, they most likely will not behave in the way you want.

If you get your dog to sit before they eat doesn't make you the pack leader. If you own a big house and a nice car, your dog doesn't care about that. They would rather have their favorite treat instead.

One good tip on how to become the pack leader is not to dominate your dog. This type of training can be a problem with their training if you teach them that being physical with them is your training method. Being physical with your dog may force them into obedience by submission, but it you probably won't convince them that you are the pack leader by being a bully.

If your dog starts barking, the you must remain calm in order to be the pack leader. All dogs will use the same ways to determine who the pack leader is. If your dog is barking because of some perceived danger, you will need to remain calm so they do not get upset.

Have you gone on a walk with your dog and they keep pulling the leash? Another important tip on becoming the pack leader is to not allow your dog to pull on the leash when you are walking them. There are some very good dog training videos that will teach you how to stop your dog from pulling at their leash.

If your dog is relaxed inside your home, then you have become the pack leader. Your dog becomes the pack leader when they cannot relax within your house, as they are watching out for things.

The first step in getting your dog to relax is to understand how you should greet them when you arrive home.
