Companionship is something that everyone yearns for, especially when one gets older. This companionship can take the form of human companionship or animal companionship. In ancient times, particularly the Greek era, the ancestors of this breed were widely distributed all around Europe by Phoenician traders. These earlier mastiffs were used as competitors in the blood sport of bull baiting wherein dogs were pitted against bulls to the death. As the sport was slowly made illegal, these dogs were all later converted into pets for domestic companionship and enjoyment.

Almost similar to the English bulldog, it is much smaller. It does have a more compact and wider body with short legs, and also it sports pointy or pointier ears. In terms of temperament, the French bully is much friendlier than its English counterpart and it is much safer to leave in the presence of small animals and even children.

As such the French bully makes an excellent companion. It does however require much more attention than a regular dog, in fact it will basically demand for it. When it feels that not getting enough attention is being given, it will set off a fairly distinct ululating sound, or what owners will all call as the French death yodel. Should you get a female, expect her to be very protective of those around her.

Its snub nose and compact airway, which is due to its compact size, will together make it in general an issue for the breed. These two combined make it hard for this dog to regulate its temperature, particularly in extreme temperature ranges of either hot or cold. Thus it comes as no surprise that in these extreme conditions that this breed dies easily. Do not get this dog if you live in a very hot or vey cold country.

In terms of average lifespan, it sports one of the shortest for a a dog, averaging only 8 to 10 years. This of course can be extended a bit more with proper care and nutrition. As it gets older do expect cataracts to form in its eyes.

Just like its English relative, this dog is really built for indoor and small space living. It is very content just sitting still for hours on end. It will of course be recommended that you take it out for walks of at least thirty minutes a day for it to improve its circulation and to stretch its legs.
