Using Animal Reiki Totems In Healing Circles

By Lisa Howard

Whether using ecstatic dance, meditation or yoga, there are a number of practices which focus on healing body, mind and spirit. There are often a combination of different healing methods when it comes to using Animal Reiki totems. In most cases, individuals receiving healing are asked to focus on an animal with which one believes to a be a spiritual totem.

As pet owners are generally compassionate human beings, the process allows for a better connection between animal and human in a number of areas. For, dogs and other pets who are loved unconditionally are generally the most responsive to an owner's request. In some cases, dogs and owners might attend a meditation class or retreat in order to better understand overall communication.

A number practitioners have suggested the ancient practice has healed lifelong battles with cancer, alleviated anxiety and helped to build strength to handle the everyday struggles of life. For others, it has helped to create a better balance and the ability to overcome obstacles while dealing with difficult people and situations. As a result, many practitioners now believe that the practice can help all species learn to live a more calm and communicative life.

Regardless of whether using a totem or otherwise, most practitioners believe individuals living a life based in the practice and principals of Reiki are going to experience a calm and peaceful life. As the practice promotes constant healing and meditation on an ongoing basis, most believe this is due to the lack of stress and discontent found outside the practice.

As Reiki focuses on assisting individuals in remembering the inner wisdom of the universe, the more one practices, generally the deeper the healing and relationship with others. In addition, as practice works to heal the inner essence of all beings, results are often nothing less than magical. While this is the case, once the inner essence or spirit is cleansed, it is then far easier to eliminate illness from the body.

Some practitioners believe that Reiki is a direct healing process used to heal one area of the body while others believe it has a triple effect. Regardless, most who have experienced a Reiki healing session have only had good things to say about the process. In some cases, it may only take one session to clear negative energy and heal someone. Whereas, in others it can take several sessions. Most often, the length of the process is determined by the severity of the illness or injury along with the level of belief in the process.

As each totem has a separate identity and meaning, it is clear to see how this ideology came to be. Although, the subject remains controversial both in and outside Native American and New Age communities as to whether individuals can only have singular or multiple totems. As such, each individual must decide for oneself which path to healing works best based on personal beliefs and current needs.

Ultimately, most practitioners will want to continue the practice on a regular or semi-regular basis. For, life can often present ongoing challenges whether related to body, mind, soul, career, friendships, relationships or other areas of concern. As such, ongoing practice is a constant in working to heal physical and emotional conditions on an ongoing basis rather than allowing the issues to fester and grow over time.
