According to research and surveys done by the American Kennel Club, the frenchie, another name for this breed, is considered to be the sixth popular canine breed in the USA. It has a sordid past however, as it was in ancient times used in the cruel sport of bull baiting. It only became a pet after the sport became illegal.

It is a canine that will be addicted to attention, and can be considered somewhat an attention monger of sorts. It will ululate eerily, a howl known as the French death howl, when it feels that it is not getting its fair share of love. This breed is also quite closely related to the English bulldog. The main difference of course in that they are a lot smaller in size but having a wider circumference and girth of body. Their legs are also much shorter and their ears are more bat like and perennially erect. In terms of temperament they are more docile and safer to keep with other animals and also small children.

As it ages expect a bit of health concerns as it develops cataracts and eye related complications. Also take note that this dog is not for any type of climate. Due to its small pug nose and shortened narrow airways, it will have issues with core body temperature regulation, and will not survive in extreme cold and hot weather.

The frenchie is also a dog breed that is quite short lived. And one can only hope that it lives at an average of around eight to ten years. Lifespan can be extended somewhat with proper care and nutrition. BE sure to follow veterinarian guidelines as regards optimum health.
