Some fancy dog collar are just necklaces with chains and beads made for dogs to wear.

You will not find the coolest, most beautiful dog collars in the pet shops or big box stores. They are sold by the artists who make them. Do a search on the Internet for "beaded dog collar" or "fancy dog collar" and you'll pull up plenty of websites that sell the really cool dog collars.

Dog Collar Sizes

When buying a new dog collar, remember that you need to be able to put two fingers between the dog's neck and the collar. Ideally you should have the width of two fingers room between the neck and collar. So, if your dog have a ten inch neck, purchase a collar that will fit up to 12 inches to make sure you will have enough room and your dog will be comfortable. You don't want it to choke the dog when he puts on a little weight or gets caught up on something.

There are many colors to choose from. Find a color that is complimentary to your dog's fur for the best look.

The soft vinyl fabric that is woven is the most popular, carefree material these days. Also available on the market are leather dog collars and beaded dog collars. Whatever the artist likes to work with is fine and those materials are all sturdy and hold up well.
