Pet Sitting At The Home

By Johnny Chan

One of the services which is on a rise presently is Home Pet Care. In order to enhance their finances, pet care workers are often willing to provide their services in the homes of the customers. Besides being beneficial to the customer it also helps that the pet is in its comfort zone, this makes taking care of it easier rather than subject the pet to a new unknown environment.

Subjecting a pet to a new and unknown environment and that too in the absence of its owner often makes the pet agitated and it will be a herculean task for the pet sitter to soothe the pet. Research by experts has proved that it is advantageous for pet sitters to pet sit at the homes of the clients keeping in mind the interest and comfort of the animals.

Stress does not spare animals also. They might face a lot of stress on a daily basis. However, if the owner takes care of the pet nicely, then the pet will be stress-free. It is important that you involve your pet in games and exercises so that he stays active physically and mentally.

You can distinguish easily between an experienced and a non-experienced pet sitter as an experienced pet sitter finds it easy to take care of the pets and keeps them happy. The important task is to keep the dog away from the stress to accomplish his main task successfully.

We give you a few services that the client may ask the pet sitter to perform along with the services he offers:

1. Taking the pet to the vet's in event of it being a day for shot or vaccination. You should be ready for such situations and heed to customer's bidding.

2. The customer may provide you with chew toys and treats for the pet. He will expect that you give the pet the products from time to time. You should always be willing to do it for the owner.

3. Ensure that you keep the pet safe and away from any form of perils. Also if specified by the owner ensure that the pet does not go to rooms where there is a small child. Follow all instructions given by the pet owner.

4. Watering the plants! Yes, some customers may ask you to water their plants indoors and outdoors. So do not let such request take you by surprise.

5. You should be ready and equipped with all that you need in case of 'accident' indoors to clean up the waste and get rid of it in a proper way. You should ask the owner to provide you with a few plastic bags and cleaning equipment outside in such cases to handle the situation better.

6. Keeping the area clean. The area chalked as the place for the pet, or a cage as the case may be, must be kept clean at all times. You will be expected to do it every day if the customers leave on any trip and ask you to take care of the pet.

7. Walking as many pets as the customer owns. Since many customers rear more than one pet, and may not have sufficient number of leashes, it helps to carry your own kit that contains leashes. You may want to confirm the number of pets as well as availability of leashes with the customer before you arrive on the first day.

8. The most important job is to make the pet comfortable. This should be your priority. The owner's absence should not make him feel bad. A reasonable degree of observation of the pet's behavior can tell you about the pet's feelings. You should be able to judge his expression to know if he feels comfortable. You have to know how to differentiate between an angrily barking dog and an excitedly barking dog.
