Reliable Cavachon Breeders Will Deliver Long Term Satisfaction

By Angel Dudley

Special care is required to create a mixed breed of this kind. The procedure requires meticulous selection of the perfect dogs. A great deal of research and careful information gathering is part of the process. Creating a litter with the desired traits is not a science, it is an art. For long term happiness with your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise offspring, only ethical Cavachon breeders should be evaluated.

If you are looking for an active small, loving, sweet and gentle personality with a low shedding coat, this is a dog worth considering. A Spaniel mix on both sides this species has a companion dog heritage. It suffers from separation anxiety when it is alone for long periods of time. People who spend many hours at work should not select this option. The coat requires considerable grooming. Regular brushing and baths are recommended. The hair may grow quickly and require professional grooming. To avoid infection the ears need to be kept clean.

Despite its rising popularity, some people have not heard of this new species. The reason is its recent entry in the canine kingdom. It was first introduced during the 1990s. This was a period following the Wally Conron introduction of the Labradoodle hybrid. With its great success, breeders were inspired to produce a number of crosses. After he pioneered this trend, there has been a growing custom of such breeding. The result is not a mutt, but canines bred for reproducing certain wanted qualities. As crossbreeds they tend to be healthier as they have a less restricted genetic heritage.

A number of breeding programs have used poodles in the mix. The desirability of the low shedding coat has risen with an increase in allergy sufferers. In an age of indoor living, indoor species with this characteristic are all the more desirable. The Bichon Frise shares this characteristic with Poodles. It is in fact a product of Poodles and Water Spaniels. Cavachons are bred for people who want smaller companion dogs with this nonallergenic trait.

Hair color in the Cavachons tends to follow the same variations available in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. Cavaliers only have one solid color option. This is the chestnut Ruby tone. There are also three color blends. A Blenheim has a noticeable chestnut tone separated by white coloring. A Tricolor has white and black hair with tan markings. The Black and Tan has solid black coat with tan markings. Bichons are known for their white coats. Cavaliers have a soft expression in their larger eyes. Bichons have an inquisitive expression in their smaller eyes.

However, it is important to know why Wally Conron regretted what he did. It is really difficult to produce such dogs that reflect what they are marketed as representing. Nonallergenic coats must be confirmed with tests. Breeding programs should have a thorough medical history of both parents to avoid unhealthy crosses. Screening for diseases with a genetic component is a key factor. A thorough examination of the specimens and their family history is necessary to ensure healthy offspring. Behavioral abnormalities should not be present.

This gene mixing produces specimens that cannot be considered purebreds. Crossbreeding favors both breeds in some combination. Some features may come from a single parent. Unpredictable results are more likely in first generations. Yet, a first generation replicates the hair shedding feature more often.

It is vital to make a purchase from ethical establishments. Dedicated Cavachon breeders have made a tremendous effort and commitment to develop their stock. Their work is a labor of love and conscientious care. People who make their purchase from such careful enterprises will not have any regrets.
