Tips For Choosing Dog Walking Cambridge

By Rachael Gutierrez

Dogs tend to like routine. They want to be fed at certain times, need to sleep and so on. Sadly you may not always be there to do that. Therefore you may want to consider using dog walking Cambridge services so that you can make sure they are looked after even when you are not there.

The difficulty comes in who to choose. You are trusting someone with an animal that is often part of the family. Therefore you want to make sure that your dog is with someone who is worthy of that trust, who understands their responsibilities and has the right training to do the job.

For a start if someone is not a professional then there is a limit to what they can do. They may be able to physically walk the dog but an amateur may not be able to spot when an animal is feeling anxious. Some less experienced people may have trouble controlling the larger breeds as they can be very energetic.

There is also the issue of what happens in an emergency. Someone who does not own a pet may not necessarily know what to do if they get injured. However someone who has had first aid training will be able to give a dog the treatment they need. They do not necessarily need to be a qualified vet but basic training can make a massive difference.

Ideally you want to avoid handlers that handle a number of animals at once. While in theory this means more money for the handler and for the pets being in a group is more sociable in reality they will often become a lot harder to control. Therefore it is best to choose a handler that will focus on your pet and your pet alone.

It is also worth finding out if the handler has any form of first aid training. They do not necessarily need to be a qualified vet but it helps if they know what to do if an animal gets injured. There are a number of courses available where they can learn. This is also in the best interest of the handler as they are more likely to get work if they can show they have relevant training.

A handler should also ask the right questions. They will ask about what a dog likes or dislikes as well as routes in the local area that are suited to the animal. A smaller breed is likely to only need a brief stroll around while a larger breed is more likely to want to run around a lot and take a bit longer to burn off their energy. Ideally they will also know a good local area where they can walk without having to transport the animal in a crate as some can react badly to being in a tight space.

There are various ways to find dog walking Cambridge services. Some people may advertise via newspapers or classified adverts. Many will have their own websites or can be employed via an agency. It is best to meet them in person so you can talk to them about their experience. More importantly see how they react to your dog and whether they work well with them. Use your regular search engine to find the best people to look after your pet.
