Details On Dog Walking Huntersville

By Kristen Baird

A dog can make a very great walking companion. For one to make such walks successful however, there are essentials they have to learn. In consideration of dog walking Huntersville residents are able to use a number of useful tips. First and foremost, one needs to walk in front of the pet, never at the back. This will make you look like the leader of the pack. Should the dog be allowed to control the walk, they will be considered the pack leader.

The dog owner should always be the one to first be out of the door and be the first back in. The dogs should walk either beside the person or behind them. Also important to consider is the length of leashes to be used. They need to be very short to give room for more control. When the leash is placed at the top of the neck, it will be easier to have communication, correction and guidance. The use of an illusion collar is considered in order to achieve better control.

Similar to humans, dogs are mostly active during the morning hours and as such it is ideal to take them for walks during the morning hours. A walk lasting an hour or thirty minutes would be okay. It should however be remembered that all dogs will have special needs that need to be known so that they are not treated similar to others. It will take some learning to know the needs of a given dog. This can be done with the help of a vet.

The moment the pet has a proper state of mind, they will need to get rewarded. This is done by letting them to sniff around and relieve themselves. The duration of the reward will be determined by the individual but should never be longer than the time spent for the walk. It needs to be shorter. Rewards act as motivation to the animal.

Some people will at times want dogs to roam when on long leashes or when off-leash. There are some risks to this. To begin with, the dog will not be easily controlled were they to encounter other aggressive animals. Should they start chasing other animals, it will be difficult to control them. There also is the possibility that they may run into traffic. This is able to be prevented through proper training and the use of leashes.

Walking dogs will make them develop a sense of confidence. Living with humans does not mean they do not need confidence. In fact, they need it more. They will build confidence when they are able to smell, see and experience various things and also learn about various areas of the world. Walking also makes dogs to be healthier. They will have an enhanced mental and physical health.

When a dog is physically fit, he will feel better and have more energy. Furthermore, fewer behavioral problems will be experienced. When an animal is healthier, he will live for a longer period of time.

It is important to have some form of identification so that in the event that a dog strayed, he can be traced. The use of collars and name tags is an option. Tattoos and embedded microchips may be used as backup. For easier recovery of the animal in cases it gets lost, one should be having their photo with them at all times during the walks.
