Another formal name for the Siberian cat is the Siberian Forest Cat. This is one of the landrace species of cats that are domesticated in homes. It came from taiga of Siberia. The climate that prevails in taiga of Siberia is subarctic. This is one of the reasons why the coat of the species is very long and think. It provides protection against harsh weather conditions. Siberians have lived in Russia for over a millennium. They commonly feature in Russian folktales. When one want to buy Siberian cats Florida should be given first priority.

The first importation of Siberians to the US occurred in 1990 and the recognition of the breed by the International cat Association happened in 1996. The breed was accepted by the American cat fanciers Association in 1999 and was followed after seven years by the Cat fanciers Association in the year 2006. The popularity of the breed is increasing at a very high rate because it is often thought to be hypoallergenic.

Whether or not Siberians have a hypoallergenic quality is a matter of personal opinion for now. People say different things about this issue. However, a lot of research is ongoing in determining the truth about the hypoallergenic claim and improving it where possible. The research is being done by many research organizations, especially in the United States. It has also been claimed that the breed produces a lesser quantity of fel d1 in comparison to other breeds.

Despite Siberians coming from a very cold region, their hearts are very warm. They radiate a lot of love to their owners and people in general. When in the house, they tail people everywhere. They will accompany their owner when they watching TV, preparing meals, reading, sleeping or doing any other household activity.

Owners are often welcomed home by the Siberian which usually waits at the door. When happy, they vocalize lowly. Unlike most other breeds, Siberian is not a shy cat. It stays around even in the presence of visitors.

Siberians are not only loving and attentive. They are also a very active and playful breed. It is common to see them initiate games by bringing the owner a best toy to throw. They like to play with small objects a lot. Thus, it would be a good idea to ensure that jewelry and other valuables away from their reach. They can be taught tricks easily because they are very intelligent.

It is often surprising ho much Siberian love water. Wild Siberians are usually fish hunters and this is thought to be the source of their love for water. They enjoy using their paws to bat water to make puddles, splashing tub water, and drinking from the fountain. They are athletic and agile too because of the hunter instinct.

The amount of care needed by the breed is moderate. Tangles and mats should not be allowed to form in the coat. This may be prevented by combing and brushing weekly. Fall and spring are the seasons for shedding hence grooming should also be done more frequently.
