Obtaining Good Wild Bird Food Offers Multiple Benefits

Wild bird food varies between each type of the fowl species. There are tame winged creatures that one keeps in the cage and they eat anything from sunflower seeds to pumpkin seeds. One can buy seeds from any grocery or pet store. The best way to keep them healthy is to feed them seeds that they like best.

Herbivorous fowls will feed on seeds, fruit, nuts and vegetables. They will enjoy the sap from trees. Geese for example will feed on the vegetation around fresh water. They will feed on berries, or reeds and seeds. Grass seeds are also popular with Geese.

Wild winged creatures like to eat insects and seeds and fruit. Many people like to attract wild fowls to their yards so they will put up feeders all over their garden. One could buy different types of seeds that will attract different types of these creatures. One could also grow flowers and collect seeds from grass seed plant, black-eyed susans, and wild sunflowers and tie them into a bunch and hang it from a tree.

The American goldfinches are vegetarians and will eat grain and seeds. It sometimes eats insects to get protein but otherwise they will eat thistle, dandelion, mullein, cosmos and sunflower seeds. They also like to feed on maple sap and berries and in the winter months, it will take advantage of feeders hung out by humans.

There are the scavengers like vultures that have special digestive systems that can process rotten meat and bones. Woodpeckers and cranes are also opportunistic feeders. Cranes will eat fish, frogs and other smaller animals. However; the vulture is known as a hunter. They do not discriminate between the living and the dead. There are

Cranes, woodpeckers and vultures are just a few of these species. Take vultures for instance, their systems are made to process rotten meat and bones. They are also known as scavengers which do not discriminate between live animals or dead. Vultures serve a valuable service to the environment by helping with the decomposition process and keeping the environment clean.

Woodpeckers are similar to Nuthatches, but they will feed from insects and bugs from trees. They will peck through bark and go for the nectar or sap from a tree. The insect life that they like to feed on includes beetles, ants, termites, caterpillars and spiders. These are gleaned from trees. After hammering a hole through the bark the woodpecker has a long barbed tongue that catches the insects living or dead. Woodpeckers serve a purpose for the tree by making sure that the tree is kept healthy and free from insect infestations.

The tongue of the hummingbird doesn't suck up the nectar from the flower. Instead the nectar is drawn in naturally like when juice is collected in a straw. These animals are fascinating creatures that have so many species with different feeding habits. Nevertheless, having some wild bird food feeders with pieces of fruit, seeds and nuts in the garden will attract some beautiful wild life that will improve anyone's day.
