Taking Care Of Your Kitten's Hair Fur

By Cathy Doggins

Cats, especially the long-haired varieties, usually are each adored and despised for their coat. Many cat owners are supporters of the cats breeds because their coats are generally pretty and soft. Nevertheless those long, luxurious coats aren't as pretty when they're losing fur all over your couches, floor, and clothing. To reduce the amount of fur being shed around your residence and to keep your cat cosy, regular grooming is mandatory. For short-coated cats, weekly or every-other-week grooming is acceptable. For long-coated cats, daily grooming is excellent.

Regular grooming of your kitty isn't a most unlikely or even complicated goal to attain. The secret is to set up a schedule, to help you and also your pussy get used to the idea. For most kitty owners, the biggest hurdle to building a grooming routine is the pussy personally. Many cats resent being brushed, especially when it is not always on their terms. If you are attempting to build a routine with an adult moggy, the key is to take it slowly. Begin with once weekly brushing. Let the cat come to the brush, and focus on areas that she likes to have brushed, for example the face area. Steadily introduce brushing in the areas that she doesn't necessarily like to have brushed, such as the belly and the rump area. Talk nicely to the pussy and try to confuse her into believing that this is a new type of petting. Some cats will at last accept the idea. Some cats will not accept the idea, and will even bite or scratch when grooming is tried. For these cats, it may not be possible to do at-home grooming and you could need to seek help from a groomer or maybe even a veterinarian.

The job of establishing a grooming routine will usually be way easier if you're working with a kitten or young kitty. The idea is the same as with an adult pussy - attempt to make the grooming experience as pleasing as practical. Attempt to catch the kitten when she's a little knackered, and brush her slowly as if she is being petted. You can give her treats in the grooming process as well to sweeten the deal. Do not use the brush or comb as a play toy, as the kitten may learn to attack the brush that way. Probabilities are, if you start a grooming regime at a young age, your moggy won't object to and may even learn to love being groomed.

The method of grooming a long-coated pussy-cat is reasonably easy. First, pet the kitty to find any mats in the fur that need removed. It is generally best to pull the mats apart, rather than to try and brush thru them. Once any mats are removed, a metal comb should be worked completely through the fur, followed by a bristle brush to catch the loose fur left over. Rather than utilizing a metal brush, many moggy owners are using specialised grooming brush/blade combinations, such as the furminator. These tools are satisfactory as well and work particularly well in circumstances where it isn't possible to groom each day.

Most pussy owners don't bathe their cats unless once is needed for some bizarre reason. If you're trying to give an adult cat a bath, be careful, especially if the moggy has claws. Be prepared for the cat to try to claw her way out of water by any means achievable. It is best to fill a sink with a bit of water, and to cover the body employing a cup that you dip into the water. This could likely need two people - one to hold the moggy and one to do the rinsing and shampooing. Holding the pussy under running water will possibly produce more anxiety, and isn't suggested. If your cat puts up a rather serious fight over the bath, it could be best to send her to the groomer or the veterinarian.
