Miniature Dachshunds is the name given to the mini version of the Dachshund breed, which is also referred to as hot dogs or weiner dogs.The average weight of these dogs is between eight and eleven pounds, although the smaller the dog is, the better. The breed itself was not known about until around the sixteenth century in the country of Germany. The name itself comes from German words meaning badger and dog. Prior to the 1990s, smaller Dachshunds were given the task of going underground in order to catch small animals. Some of these smaller dogs were runts from litters and others were created intentionally by crossing the breed with Pinschers and Toy Terriers.

In the past, most of the miniature versions that were made from the process of crossbreeding did not carry all the characteristics of this breed. It was not until 1910 when stricter enforcement was placed on reproduction of the breed. Now, each coat type has its own breed that it is crossed with to get optimal results. Wire-haired kinds are mixed with miniature Schnauzers, long-haired dogs are put together with Papillons, and the smooth-haired versions are mixed with mini Pinschers.

Although this breed is a popular pet choice for many people around the world, there is not as high of a population of mini versions. Still, these animals may be available for sale directly through breeders, from pet stores, or even some shelters. These dogs might also be purchased online and transported to the new owner. Their cost will vary considerably and is based on factors such as seller, age of dog, size and more.

There are three coats available for these dogs: wire haired, smooth and long haired. They also come in a variety of colors, including: gray, black, yellow, black, red, tan, chocolate, or a combination of colors. They are known for their long body and short legs that make them sit low to the ground. Mini versions were originally develop exclusively for the purpose of hunting small game below and above ground. They have a keen since of smell, which gives them an advantage when it comes to trailing.

Generally, these dogs are independent and high in spirit. They are smart and able to think on their own. Every animal is expected to have its own personality, so potential owners are encouraged to interact with the animal before purchasing it.

These animals are known to live comfortably in urban and rural areas. They can be extremely active and thus require frequent walks or time spent outside. They tend to live for 12 to 14 years, depending on their health and lifestyle. This breed is more susceptible to Intervertebral Disc Disease, which is often the result of obesity. The complications associated with this disease are inability to walk and move the limbs, as well as loss of bladder control.

Overall, Dachshunds are a beloved dog breed that make for great pets. There are numerous people and places that have miniature Dachshunds for sale. Cost of such animals is expected to vary considerably. Those looking to own this dog should search to see what all is available in their region.
