How To Successfully Nurture And Understand Husky Puppies

By Nolan Stone

Siberian Husky Puppies are known as one of the most loving, playful, devoted animals families could obtain. While some dogs can be left to themselves to entertain themselves for long periods, this breed is not one of them. Husky owners may get a bit angry with the dog at times, until they understand the unique side of this amazing animal.

Owners of one of these fun loving dogs should keep in mind a few key points that will go a long way in not only reducing family stress levels, but also in providing an environment in which the dog can nurture, grow and adapt positively to its new family. Though there are many breeds that can be left in the house alone, this puppy is not one of them. As a high energy dog, without supervision they tend to become too playful and destructive.

Siberian Husky's are definitely working dogs. They were originally used as a dog used for pulling sleds in Alaska. Their speed is next to none as can be observed when the dog is used for racing and pulling. As such, dog owners need to be aware that leaving this breed of animal unattended for long periods of time generally results in the Husky's working instinct kicking into gear. This might result in chewing, running, jumping, climbing and digging, without regard for indoor space.

Needless to say it really isn't an option to exercise this dog. Much of the aforementioned problems can be seriously minimized by exercising this dog. This dog loves to run and dart and jump. Make sure if you chain the puppy on a leash outside to give plenty of room for roaming and investigating. If you leave the puppy alone in the house put him in a crate or kennel.

These dogs will also need a leader of the pack. As animals used to a packs they respond well to orders and commands so long as they do not have a stronger personality than their owner. If so, although these puppies adapt to families well, with kindness and affinity, owners may find this dog fails to follow orders and commands.

If they view their owner as the leader they will quickly take their orders and follow their commands. If they have a stronger personality than the pack leader there may be a problem. If they determine they can get by with not following a command, they will see no reason to follow.

These breeds also are noise makers at night. Their barking and howling, much like a wolf, has often been the subject of irritation to their owners. Some solutions might include building an outdoor kennel or some owners opt for dogs to sleep in the corner of a bed. In addition these dogs don't do well in extreme hot weather. Take care to pay attention to their heat levels during summer months and don't work them too hard during high heat.

This dog benefits immensely from obedience training, and many of the behavioral problems associated with this puppy can be minimized by the dog learning to follow commands. Also exercise or working the pet on a regular basis. This breed enjoys working, and without it become a dog that will display that energy somehow.

When enjoying nice weather outside with the puppy make sure the dog is on a leash, as they tend to run away, not understanding yard limitations when young. Dog owners may also need to consider building a fence as Husky's are excellent climbers. If dog owners install a fence make sure it is two feet into the ground as Husky's also have an affinity for digging under fences to escape fenced in areas.

Also using a professional groomer can help Husky's a lot. Their long hair sheds, so giving them a regular brushing is a good idea and something they enjoy. This will help reduce shedding.

Huskies may look like wolves but they are some of the most loving dogs to all that they meet. Just make sure to take the dog around a lot of people. Parks, and malls are good options, and allow the pet lots of attention from strangers. These pets usually respond with adoration and friendliness. Socializing the dog will help husky puppies behavior and attitude with those you know, who may later meet your dog. It will also keep the dog satisfied, and responding well to other people.
