A Quick Glance At Common German Dog Names

After owning a German Shepherd from the best bloodline, next step is to give it a unique sounding name. First thing to consider is to get them a German name, where these dogs originated. But in Germany, dog names are usually generic - Blitz, Cool Catch, Lightning and Asterix - all common English names.

There are different German pet names made from a list of German names and are commonly used for German shepherds. There are also numerous non-German and rich names are used for the German Shepherd but if you are residing anywhere other than Germany it is a nice idea to name the dog with a name from its original country. Names such as Elfriede, Mozart and Beethoven are suitable because they are recognized all over the world.

You can also base the name in accordance with your German Shepherd's temperament. Why not name him Adler which is the German term for "eagle" if he has a carefree personality.

Normal names like Bello or Hasso can also be used however they are not favoured in Germany anymore. They're considered as commonplace as spot and tabby or Fido in the English language. Some of the usual names for the German Shepherd include Ajax, Angel, Babe, Blue, Chaos and even Charlie and Cheese. Another popular German name for the German Shepherd can be Franz. It is a good idea to choose the name that fits the personality of the pet.

Instead of giving them a too general name like Sigmund, you may want to research on last names of intellectuals and writers such having such first name. This may include Siggi, Kafka, Freud, or Goethe - names that are exclusive enough for your German Shepherd.

Music enthusiasts can consider Amadeusor Mozart. But you must not be confined with classical or old names. You can also Google for some pop artists such as Udo Lindenberg, Nena, or Austrian Falco to give your pet name with a newer sound. Another thing to be considered is to look at German literature. You can give Siegfried and Kriemhild for male and female German Shepherd respectively.

Choosing names from cartoon series is also a suggestion. This would give your pet a relatively light name. Asterix, named after a cartoon character, would suit a smart pet. For a large, lazy dog fond of eating, the name Obelix would be a perfect choice.

There are words which give off a specific meaning like the German word for strong and noble is Adalhard and makes a magnificent name along with Baldur which means brave can make perfect options for a courageous dog.

There are common names that tend to signify some traits which you can use as pet names. Some of these are Traute for trusted, Hugo which means smart, or Heidi for noble female dogs. You can also consider the name Reinhard for a physically outstanding and robust dog. In Germany, these are not popular person names but they would sound exclusive for your canines.
